Scrap Magazine
Scrap is the bimonthly magazine of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), a Washington, D.C.-based trade association with more than 1,600 member companies that process, broker, and consume scrap commodities, including ferrous and nonferrous metals, paper, glass, textiles, rubber, and plastics. Most assignments are multisource features that focus on topics of interest and importance to those recycling scrap, such as new scrap processing and handling equipment, environmental regulations and legislation, market trends, management and operational techniques, and more. Scrap pays $600-$1,000 depending on the length and difficulty of the assignment. Payment upon acceptance. Byline given.
KEY CLUB magazine
KEY CLUB is published two times during the academic year. It is the official publication of Key Club International, the largest high school service organization in the world with more than 245,000 members in 28 nations. Members of Key Club are service-minded students interested in helping others and in making their communities and schools better places in which to live and learn. Payment for accepted material ranges from $100 to $800 for 250 to 1,500 word articles. We pay on acceptance for publication.
Kiwanis magazine
Kiwanis club members are business leaders and professionals who are actively involved in community service. General interest articles may be considered for free-lance assignments. Publishes articles on young childrens issues (in particular), small business, parenting, personal finance, social, humanitarian, self-improvement, and community-related topics. Manuscripts may vary between 750 to 1,700 words in length, depending on the assignment. Payment is upon acceptance, ranging from $300 to $750.
Model Aviation magazine
Model Aviation is the flagship publication of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Model Aviation strives to inspire, inform, and instruct enthusiasts who share a passion for aeromodeling. Model Aviation has a payment-on-acceptance policy (we do not buy all submissions). Once the author is paid, Model Aviation owns the rights to the article and/or model design, and reserves the authority to edit or change the manuscript as necessary.
Museum Magazine
Museum is the bimonthly membership magazine of the American Alliance of Museums. The editors seek timely pieces on issues that help museum professionals do their jobs. Writers should have background in or access to the U.S. museum community and its concerns. The magazine pays freelance writers competitive rates with those of similar association publications.
Overtones magazine
Overtones is the Handbell Musicians of America’s official bi-monthly journal. The editors welcome articles about handbells, handbell music, techniques, and people, including feature stories, interviews, how-to articles, and news items as well as column pieces. Word length: 1200-2000 words/feature article. Payment: up to $80/article.
Pizza Today magazine
Pizza Today is a monthly four-color trade publication for owners and managers of pizza-based restaurants. Articles for submission to Pizza Today should provide readers with bottom-line operational and management advice applicable to the pizza industry. Authors should offer insights into innovations leading to future money-making ideas for pizza restaurant owners. Payment is 50 cents/word.
Response Magazine
Response publishes about 20 freelance-written stories per year. All are assigned by the editor. However, queries for specific stories may be accepted. Pay: Response Magazine pays 60 cents per word. Length: Features are typically 2,000 words. Rights: Response Magazine acquires first North American rights and retains all reuse rights, including reprints and electronic distribution.
Rock & Gem magazine
Rock & Gem is interested in field-trip and step-by-step lapidary project articles. The editors also accept articles on specimen collecting, gold prospecting, club activities, basic and advanced lapidary skills, lapidary artist profiles, and other hobby-related subjects. Feature length: 2,000 to 3,000 words. Rights and payment are negotiated with the editor. Payment is between $100-$250.
Italian America magazine
Italian America is a quarterly magazine produced, published and distributed by the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA). The editors seek stories about Italian Americans, their history, culture, and contributions. Topics can include an important person of Italian heritage living or dead; little-known facts from Italian and Italian American history; a new Italian or Italian American product, discovery, cultural accomplishment or issue; cultural/scientific/medical news from Italy. Word length: 750-1K words. Payment: $100-$250/article.
