Okanagan Life is a regional character magazine serving Okanagan residents Valleywide from Salmon Arm in the north to Osoyoos in the south. We want useful, reader-friendly information and advice pertaining to Okanagan lifestyle. Writers: pay ranges from 20 cents to 25 cents per published word, depending on experience (paid within 30 days of publication).

Seattle magazine is the areas definitive city and regional magazine that helps people get the most out of living in the Puget Sound. The editors assign approximately 75% of the stories each month to local freelance writers. The average department length story (1200 words) pays about $350 and the average feature length story (1500-3500 words) pays from $400-$1,000, depending on the story. Some very short pieces (200-300 words) pay $50-$100. These rates are not guaranteed and vary widely.

Regular department pieces range from 700 to 1,100 words; feature articles average between 1,600 and 2,000 words. Fees are typically $.50/word: $.45/word for first North American rights and $.05 for non-exclusive web rights (the right to archive the story on our website). Payment is after publication.



Saley Publications’ Visitor Guides accept articles, stories, and humor that would interest summer visitors. Topics could include: golfing, swimming, camping, boating, wildlife, camp cooking, travel, antiquing, photography and fishing. Word length: 300-1000 words. Payment is $0.04 per word. Photos are also welcome and paid $15 when published ($30 for cover photo).

Features can cover any subject: food, outdoors, politics, sports, first-person humor, first-person dramatic, health, lifestyles, home & garden, etc. Word length: 1200-4000 words. Payment: $300-$1,500/article.

Our State: Down Home in North Carolina has been the most comprehensive source of information on the people, places, culture, history, and folklore of North Carolina. We buy nonfiction articles that highlight North Carolina history, personalities, travel, arts and crafts, nature, adventure, culture, and nostalgia. Average article length is about 1,500 words. Payment for articles is made on publication. Fees will be agree upon at the time a story is assigned.
