BirdWatching (formerly Birder’s World) is a bimonthly magazine for people with a broad interest in wild birds and birdwatching. The editors are interested in stories about birds that havent been told before. They like species profiles and are looking for insightful observations of bird behavior migration, habitat selection, foraging, display, song, courtship, nesting, molt (you name it) coupled with explanations for why birds do what they do. Queried articles are accepted on speculation only. The editors pay $400 for most features and less for shorter pieces.

MOTHER EARTH NEWS is a bimonthly magazine that promotes more self-sufficient, financially independent and environmentally aware lifestyles. Our readers range in age from the early teens to 90-plus. We welcome articles and quality photographs for two departments: Country Lore and Firsthand Reports. Country Lore presents handy how-to tips of 100 to 300 words; payment is $25 to $100 per published item. Firsthand Reports are first-person stories (1,500 to 2,000 words) about sustainable lifestyles of all sorts; payment is $150 per published piece.

Nature Friend Magazine is a children’s magazine the whole family, including the grandparents, can enjoy. The magazine is published 12 issues per year, six of which are towards an older age. Payment: 5 cents.word for first rights. Payment is made upon publication

SCW considers all types of articles dealing with conservation of our wildlife and natural resources, outdoor activities (hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, etc.), natural and scenic areas, the states heritage as related to the outdoors, natural history of particular game and non-game species, and subjects on a national level of interest to outdoor-oriented readers anywhere (such as famous outdoorsmen of the past who affected our outdoor lifestyle, or environmental issues). We also are looking for well-done outdoor articles with a humorous angle. Pays about 20 cents per word.
