Escape Pod magazine
EP is a science fiction magazine. The editors are interested in two lengths of fiction — “short fiction” and “flash fiction.” Length: 2,000 and 6,000 words. Pays: $.05 a word for new fiction at this length, $.03 a word for reprints. ($100 minimum payment).
Tor.com (Speculative Fiction)
Tor.com welcomes original speculative fiction short stories and poetry: SF, fantasy, horror, alternate history, and related genres. Word length: under 12,000 words. Pays 25 cents a word for the first 5,000 words, 15 cents a word for the next 5,000, and 10 cents a word after that.
The Drabblecast
The Drabblecast is an award-winning, illustrated, listener-supported audio fiction magazine. It features short stories at the far side of weird, including science fiction, horror, fantasy, and everything in between. Drabblecast purchases limited one-time, non-exclusive rights to audio only. Payment: 3 cents/word.
Sci Phi magazine
Sci Phi is an online science fiction and philosophy magazine. Stories explore questions of life, the universe and everything and articles delve into the deep philosophical waters of science fiction universes. The editors seek science fiction stories that explore a philosophical idea or have a philosophical hook, as well as general level philosophical discussions that use science fiction elements as launching points for explorations of ideas. Pays 5 cents/word for original works. Length: 100 5000 words
Pseudopod
Pseudopod is a genre magazine in audio form. The editors look for horror: dark, weird fiction. We run the spectrum from grim realism or crime drama, to magic-realism, to blatantly supernatural dark fantasy. Pseudopod stories tend to be no longer than 5,000 words. Pays: $100 for short fiction at this length.
Mad Scientist Journal
Mad Scientist Journal accepts almost any genre: humor, SF, fantasy, horror, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, pulp adventure. Flash fiction runs 500-2000 words; short fiction runs 2000-8000 words; and serial fiction runs 2000-8000 words. Payment: $10-$100/story.
Kasma magazine
Kasma magazine accepts sci-fi stories, from 1K to 5K words, for publication. Word length: 1K to 5K words. Open to different styles, plots, and characters. Payment is $25/story. The editor will also consider fantasy if the story is compelling enough to engage readers. Launched in 2009 by Alex Korovessis, Kasma is a Canadian sci-fi publication published entirely online.
InterGalactic Medicine Show
Orson Scott Card’s InterGalactic Medicine Show is an online fantasy and science fiction magazine. The editors seek stories of any length in the genres of science fiction and fantasy. Payment: 6 cents/word. Length: up to 7500 words and 5 cents a word thereafter.
GigaNotoSaurus.org (Sci-Fi/Fantasy)
GigaNotoSaurus accepts Science Fiction or Fantasy (or any combination thereof) from 5K to 25K words. The editor wants stories with variety of settings, styles, viewpoints, and backgrounds. GigaNotoSaurus publishes one story a month. Pays $100 per story on acceptance.
Expanded Horizons magazine
Expanded Horizons publishes not only stories and poetry, but also essays and reflections on speculative fiction and fandom that challenge the established biases of the field/genre. Payment: $30 for each story, essay or poem accepted, regardless of its word count.
