Moment publishes unpredictable stories that interest members of all branches of the Jewish community. The magazine publishes investigative features, personal essays, human-interest stories, first-person narratives, issue explorations, intellectual thought pieces, culture pieces, poetry, book reviews, and short stories. Word length: 2500-7500 words. Payment: $40-$500/article, possibly more for assigned articles.
Wine X magazine
Wine X is a young adult lifestyle magazine with wine and other beverages grafted on to it. The editors publish regular features on music, fashion, videos, books, travel and other relevant young adult culture. Buys on Spec. Word length: 1,000 – 1,200 words. Pay rates are negotiated per article.

Toptenz.com publishes top 10 lists that inform and entertain, focusing on topics that vary from the norm and touch on the bizarre. The site adds a new list every weekday to fill several categories from bizarre to travel. The site maintains thousands of lists. The editor pays $50.00 upon acceptance of a completed article.
The Washington Monthly magazine
The Washington Monthly is a publication covering politics, government, culture and the media. The magazine is published Bimonthly and includes investigative and opinion-based feature articles (2,000 to 5,000 words), occasional short news items and humorous sidebars (500 to 1,000 words), and book reviews of recent political and cultural titles (usually about 800 words). The pay rate for published articles is 10 cents per word.
The Toast magazine
The editors are interested in original reporting and longform journalism (particularly about women and women-adjacent issues), short fiction and poetry (preferably strange), personal narratives, videos, illustrations and essays. Payment: TBD.
The Jewish Daily Forward
Jewish Daily Forward regularly accepts submissions from outside contributors. Stories from outside the New York metropolitan area are in particular demand. The News section is looking for unexpected stories about the Jewish world. Fees differ depending on the intended medium, section and the work in question. Your editor should inform you of the rate upon commissioning your work.
The Gay & Lesbian Review
The Mission of The Gay & Lesbian Review Worldwide is to provide a forum for enlightened discussion of issues and ideas of importance to lesbians and gay men; to advance gay and lesbian culture by providing a quality vehicle for its best writers and thinkers; and to educate a broader public on gay and lesbian topics. The G&LR publishes essays, reviews, interviews, and poems — but not short fiction, and rarely personal memoirs or journals. Feature articles range from around 2,000 to 4,000 words, with a golden mean of 2,500 to 3,000 words. Contributors of original feature articles receive a flat fee of $100.
Smoky Mountain Living magazine
Smoky Mountain Living is a magazine covering the southern Appalachians and celebrates the area’s environmental riches, its people, culture, music, arts, history, and special places. Smithsonian Magazine buys first North American serial rights only. Article length ranges from a 700-word humor column to a 4,000-word full-length feature. Editors want articles that fall within the general range of Smithsonian Institution interests, such as: cultural history, physical science, art and natural history. The editors are always looking for offbeat subjects and profiles. Payment various per feature, up to $1,500 per short piece.
Sesi magazine
Sesi is a quarterly teen magazine edited for today’s eclectic African-American/Black girl between the ages of 13 and 19. Sesi is dedicated to providing Black girls with a community that focuses on celebrating them and their culture by covering beauty, fashion, relationships, health, education, careers, entertainment, fiction, and social issues. Articles will vary in word length depending on the topic (1,000 words to 4,000 words). Deadlines and payment will be discussed upon assignment.
