High Country News magazine

High Country News (est. 1970) is a nonprofit magazine that focuses on environmental, cultural, and social issues in the Western United States. HCN will consider pitches for well-researched stories on any natural resource or environmental topic, as long as it concerns the West. Word length: 500 to 1,600 (for departments); up to 2,400 words (for feature articles). Payment is between $0.50 and $1.50 per word, depending on the writer’s experience and our experience with the writer.
