Herc Rentals is seeking an experienced communications professional to contribute to our robust communications program as a Freelance Writer / Copy Editor.

This position requires strong written communication skills, with keen ability to produce content for a variety of internal and external audiences. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of AP Style with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to the company’s communications style guide, where different. This position is 100% remote (20 hours / week).

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Blog Content Development and Copy Writing

-Produce search engine optimized copy for 10-15 blog articles per month.
-Company blog style guide, topics, keywords/phrases and information sources will be provided; some independent research may be required.

Social Media Content Writing

-Produce copy for approximately 20 unique social media posts per month (to be distributed across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X).
-Company social media guidelines will be provided.
-Monthly topics will be provided and include equipment rental industry specific content as well as original posts for national holidays, secular observances, unofficial holidays and awareness days that intersect with the construction and rental equipment industries.
-Graphic design and selection for posts are provided by the creative team, suggestions welcome.

Copy for Internal and External Crisis Response Communications

-Produce copy which can be customized during an incident, to be included in templates for the company’s crisis communications plan. We have identified 20 potential incidents across crisis categories.
-Incident types and comms templates needed will be provided.

Writing and Proofreading Content for Internal Communications

-Produce copy for company newsletter on assigned topics (approximately 1-3 per quarter).
Topics, key messages and sources will be provided.
Some independent research of topics may be required.
-Proofread/mark up stories prepared by others for grammar, AP Style, and application of company communications style guidelines.
-Produce written employee communications for select, mainstream topics (i.e. holidays and cultural observances, non-industry specific HR and business topics).
Some independent research on trending topics may be required.
-Proofread prepared employee communications, as needed, for grammar using AP Style, and application of company communications style guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

-Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, public relations or related field.
-Experience and understanding of the use of content to advance company strategies.
-10 years of communications or related business experience.
-Ability to conduct thorough research, providing sources (AI generated content is not acceptable).
-Strong attention to detail.
