Mom Writer's Literary Magazine's Spring/Summer Edition is a Must-Read Posted on: Thu, 07 May 2009 16:07:00 +0000
Times are tough, and when things get tough, moms get together. Mom Writer's Literary Magazine's (MWLM) latest issue is the perfect place for women to find a friend, a little humor, helpful advice and some inspiration. The popular on-line magazine now has an expanded printed edition chock full of advice and encouragement from mom writers everywhere. Feature stories, essays, profiles, columns, poetry and book reviews embrace a mom's perspective in this hip-mom publication.
As the spring/summer edition of MWLM hits mailboxes and the Web mom's across America, these moms are looking for inspiration and ideas to help them deal with the difficulties of marriage and parenting among chaotic economic times and high unemployment. The cover story on Asha Dornfest highlights a mom writer-blogger who uses humor and plain English to guide readers through computer applications and Web publishing. The founder of parenthacks.com, Dornfest provides practical how-to advice in an ever-confusing technical world.
Mom Writer's Literary Magazine always introduces readers to several women writers and this months three profiles do not disappoint. Allison Winn Scotch, author of The Department of Lost & Found and Time of My Life, discovered she wanted to work for herself, work from home and get paid to write. After years writing magazine articles, this entertaining storyteller is working on her third novel slated for release next year. Melinda Roberts' profile highlights the recently divorced, witty and engaging Roberts, author of Mommy Confidential: Adventures from the Wonderbelly of Motherhood. She uses warmth and humor in her commentaries on real events that shape real lives. The final profile is on Suzanne Kamata a mom writer living in Japan who's first novel Losing Kei deals with culture clash, marriage and motherhood.
Everyone can use a little escape these days and with the sun soon shining, there's no better way to relax then by curling up on the porch or at the beach with a good book. The spring/summer issue of MWLM features three book reviews. The Piano Teacher, by Janice Y.K. Lee is a tale of two love affairs in mid-century Hong Kong. It is the perfect romantic read for a warm afternoon when the kids are napping. In Rockabye: From Wild to Child Rebecca Woolf's memoir details her unexpected pregnancy at the age of 23, and how she forged her own, unconventional way through motherhood. Finally, the magazine reviews Sleep is for the Weak: The Best of the Mommybloggers, edited by Rita Arens. This funny compilation of stories on parenting offers advice, humor and a sense of camaraderie.
As today's current economic climate can seem overwhelming, women are increasingly relying on one another to deal with these uncertain times. "Our magazine lifts up women writers by bringing warmth and humor to everyday life. The publication provides the essence of a local mom's book club combined with a phone call to an old and trusted friend," said Paula Schmitt, MWLM's founder and publisher. "The Magazine's essays, profiles, columns and poetry are selected both for their humorous and inspirational content, as well as for their practical advice and tips to mom writers."
In addition to all the wonderful writing, MWLM includes an on-line store, a blog, and now features the MWLM Marketplace, a site for mom-based business ads and mommy blog ads. For the fourth year in a row the Magazine was named One of the Best Sites for Writers by Writer's Digest Magazine. Stop by and say hello this summer as MWLM is going to Chicago for the fifth annual BlogHer '09 conference. They hope to see you there!
