HowStuffWorks.com Seeking Ideas for Famous Five-Word Acceptance Speech Posted on: Wed, 23 Apr 2008 12:46:00 +0000
The 12th Annual Webby Awards nominated HowStuffWorks.com for the Best Copy/Writing and Podcast of 2008. In conjunction with the Webby Awards, HowStuffWorks.com fans have the opportunity to vote for the People's Voice Awards at http://pv.webbyawards.com/. Voting is open through May 1.
Five Words Says It All
Fans can also enter a contest to write HowStuffWorks.com's Webby acceptance speech -- known for its famous five-word limit. Should HowStuffWorks.com win a People's Voice award, the company will use the best user-submitted speech at the ceremony and post the speech, along with a photo of its author, on the HowStuffWorks.com home page. Fans can get more information at http://www.howstuffworks.com/five-words-says-it-all.htm. Past headline-grabbing speechmakers at the awards include Al Gore ("Please don't recount this vote"), Beastie Boys ("Can anyone fix my computer?") and Prince ("Everything you think is true").
How the Webbys Work
Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. To learn more about the awards, visit http://computer.howstuffworks.com/webby.htm.
"The Webby Awards honors the outstanding Web sites that are setting the standards for the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "HowStuffWorks.com's Webby Award nominations are a testament to the skill, ingenuity and vision of its creators."
"You can trust HowStuffWorks.com to deliver reliable, relevant information in an entertaining way -- and it's great to be recognized for that," said Conal Byrne, Editor-In-Chief of HowStuffWorks.com. "We're looking forward to seeing how our fans translate that into a five-word acceptance speech, which we really hope to have a reason to use in June."
The 12th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from more than 60 countries and all 50 states.
