12 Internet Marketing Trends for the Next 3 Years
Posted on: Sun, 27 Apr 2008 13:12:00 +0000

This week marks the 13th year that Internet Marketing veteran Larry Chase has been publishing his Web Digest For Marketers email newsletter (47,300+ subscribers). It was the first email newsletter to cover Internet Marketing. To mark this anniversary, Mr. Chase just published his predictions for the top trends that will dominate the Internet Marketing industry over the next three years.

"I've been an Internet Marketing practitioner for 15 years and publishing Web Digest for 13 years. With the meteoric rise of Web 2.0, social media, and mobile marketing, this is the most pivotal time I've witnessed yet," Chase observed. "The tectonic changes now underway will have a dramatic impact on all aspects of Internet Marketing, including: Universal SEO (Search Engine Optimization), PPC (Pay-Per-Click) Advertising, Email Marketing, CRM (Customer Relationship Management), Social Media Marketing, Direct Response & Brand Advertising," concluded Chase.
Three game-changing trends identified by Larry Chase are:

Trend #1 - Mobile e-Commerce Picks Up Speed

There are currently over 240 million cellular phone users in the U.S. Nielsen reported that 58 million people viewed an ad on their mobile phones in February 2008. Expect to see increased sophistication in mobile marketing as the U.S. catches up with coupon technology already heavily used in advanced mobile markets like Japan.

Trend #2 - Web Serves as TV Test Bed

Expect to see new TV programming online first. It is much cheaper to test a TV programming concept online, or to have the online marketplace identify one of its own, than to see what works and fails using TV pilots. Also, expect to see more webisodes as TV tries to extend the market for programming.

Trend #3 - Content Marketing: New Rules for 21st Century Marketers

In an age where the customer rules, the advertiser must come bearing gifts. Since the advertiser is employing a variety of media channels to reach the user, that gift is most likely going to take the form of high-value information. No longer can advertisers expect consumers to accept advertising without a quid pro quo for the consumer's attention.
