- The Newseum, the Student Press Law Center and the National Scholastic Press Association are cosponsors of the Courage in Student Journalism Awards. The two $5,000 awards recognize a middle school or high school journalist and a media adviser or school administrator who have stood in support of the First Amendment. - The annual scholarship, established through the WWU Foundation, will be awarded to two exceptional journalism students attending WWU in Bellingham.
Scholarship recipients must be declared majors in public relations at WWU, have a financial need and demonstrate academic merit. Preference will be given to students with an interest in online news and online marketing. Exceptional students may be awarded a second scholarship in the subsequent year. The recipients of the scholarship will be selected by WWU's Journalism Department.

- Donald L. Perris Scholarship Fund
- The Scripps Howard Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The E. W. Scripps Company, has established a $1.25 million scholarship and internship fund in memory of long-time Scripps broadcasting executive Donald L. Perris.
The endowed fund, which will be administered by the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University, is part of a ten-year, $15 million commitment the Foundation has made to the university to support media studies programs, scholarships and technological improvements.
The Donald L. Perris Scholarship/Internship Fund will provide grants for undergraduate students at OU who are working toward degrees across all media disciplines, including broadcasting.

- Dorothea Lange Fellowship
- The fellowship, in memory of one of the most outstanding documentary photographers of the 20th-century, encourages the use of photography (black and white or color) in scholarly work of any discipline at UC Berkeley. The fellowship will be awarded to a UC Berkeley faculty member, a graduate student, or a senior who has been accepted for graduate work at Berkeley. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding work in documentary photography and a creative plan for future work. The selected fellow will receive $4,000.
