( Added: March 31, 2008 ) - The Los Angeles Press Club (LAPC) is having their 50th Annual Southern California
Journalism Awards on June 21st at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, in honor of the late
Hal Fishman of KTLA. Hundreds of journalists will gather to honor their colleagues
during an evening of mirth, celebration and robust libations. The very funny and talented
Harry Shearer will serve as emcee for the festivities and KNBC's Ana Garcia has been
named the Joseph M. Quinn award winner. In addition to all of the winners being
announced that evening, the Daniel Pearl Award and the President's Award will also be
handed out.
"This is your last chance to be a part of history and get recognition for all your
hard work," said the club's executive director, Diana Ljungaeus. "At a time of uncertainty
in the media business, there's also no better way to polish a resume than receiving an
award from one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious journalism competitions -- so
be sure to apply on or before April 8th."
Last year's contest drew more than 600 entries and similar numbers are expected
this year. Entries can be mailed or dropped off at the club's headquarters. There are also a
few extra incentives for entering and joining the Press Club:
STUDENTS
Any student can enter at the regular member rate of $40 or do a Student Super
Special by sending in two or more entries at $20 each. We'll throw in a free membership
to the Press Club for the rest of the year.
NEW MEMBERS
Join the press club (applies to new members only) and become a member for the
rest of the year for $30. You get to enjoy membership discounts for all your entries, along
with all other benefits of belonging to Press Club.
Non-member entry fees are $80 per entry but members only pay $40 each.
Individual members (not corporate) also enjoy an additional 50% off their third entry and
all entries after that -- making those entries only $20 each.
You are allowed to enter the same story in more than one category, but each
entry requires a separate copy, entry form and fee. If you enter in additional categories,
we will honor your discount for each entry.
