( December 3, 2007 ) - In what appears to be an overnight damage control move,
Author Solutions & Rooftop Publishing Company of Bloomington Indiana removed the
name of author Jack Swint from their four cold-case unsolved murder books that he
wrote, and they already published. The books, part of the "Who Killed?" series that Swint
started, include murders in Savannah GA, Jacksonville FL, Pittsburgh PA and Cleveland
OH. Up until three weeks ago, all major in store and online book chains such as
AMAZON portrayed the books with "Jack Swint" as the author on their advertising and
the books themselves. Unnamed sources at Rooftop say the author's name has now been
stricken from the series because of his past criminal record and or psychological
disorders. Either way, they still want his manuscripts, but not his name.
According to Adrian Garver, copyright and trademark representative for Amazon,
Rooftops publisher Kevin King made the decision to delete Swints name. All four books
are now being sold worldwide without an author appearing on the book cover or its
contents. Sources say it is the first time a publisher has deleted an author's name from a
book, especially ones that were already on the market. A move that is leaving distributors,
retailers and customers very confused.
Jack Swint, openly states that he has an extensive criminal record before being
diagnosed in 1997 with borderline personality disorder. Swint writes on his personal
website of his past criminal convictions and the publishers' prior knowledge when they
approached him to write the series. But, Rooftop scrambled to distance themselves from
the author when a "PR Newswire" press release on September 12th, 2007
detailed Swints opportunity to work with Rooftop Publishing Company, the "Who
Killed?" book series and his history. According to Swint, publisher Kevin King went
from "everyone deserves a second chance" to an e-mail stating "don't contact me again."
Even though book sales are exceeding expectations.
Rooftop Publishing Company, which is owned by Author Solutions and Bertram
Capital Management of Palo Alto California, has made no comment. Amazon, Books A
Million, Barnes & Noble, Borders and other book retailers have acknowledged Rooftops
request to delete Jack Swints name from the "Who Killed?" series, artwork and web link
feeds but gave no explanation why. Swint says "Ive never seen books without an authors
name on them." He just wants his name back on the four books he wrote.
