Each of the 13 weekly episodes profiles an individual poet, exploring their lives and literature, worlds and work. From the jazz-infused style of the legendary Sheri-D Wilson, to the Gerald Lampert Award-winning works of Ray Hsu, Heart of a Poet paints an eclectic and vibrant picture of poets as diverse as the Canadian cultural landscape that inspires their work. Taking poetry from the page to the public, Heart of Poet features live performances.
Hosted by Toronto's own vivacious spoken-word poet Andrea Thompson, Heart of a Poet uses interviews, on-the-street recitations and readings to take viewers inside the world of Canadian poetry in all its varied forms.
The season premiere features B.C. poet Shane Koyczan, a winner of the National Poetry Slam and "Best Poetry Reading" prize at the Edinburgh Book Festival. His punchy, edgy delivery, uncanny ability to weave words and unwavering patriotism recently earned him the role of 'spokespoet' for the Canadian Tourism Commission, who enlisted his skill to write a patriotic piece on Canada.
