July 24-27 2008 - The Poetry Party of the Year - Nevada

It's the time of year that all poets look forward to. The largest poetry organization in the world, the International Society of Poets (ISP), will hold its annual poetry convention in Las Vegas, Nevada on Thursday, July 24, 2008 through Sunday, July 27, 2008. Poets will participate in an onsite poetry contest, attend educational lectures and seminars, take part in reading rooms and rap sessions, and enjoy world-class entertainment. The weekend concludes with an awards ceremony on Sunday. Members from over 60 different nations congregate at the convention to showcase their work and meet legendary American artists and poets.
The convention is designed to recognize, award, and promote the poetic talent of ISP members. It's a place where poets from all over the world can discover resources and find inspiration for their writing. Individuals meet and greet with renowned artists and poets, not to mention get the chance to win the $20,000 cash prize and be named the 2008 Poet of the Year.
"It is extremely rewarding to see how this convention affects our members," says Steve Michaels, Convention Chairperson of the International Society of Poets. He adds, "The talent we see is outstanding. This is an organization that people are proud to be a part of, and that's why people keep coming back every year."
ISP will be welcoming Tony Danza and Cornell Gunter's The Coasters to join the celebration and provide entertainment for all the attending poets and their guests. A selection of distinguished poets will also be at the event to read and to speak to those in attendance, including former Chancellor of Academy of American Poets David Wagoner, Poet Laureate Fleda Brown, Mellon Poetry Prize Winner Herbert Woodward Martin, and Pulitzer Prize Winner W.D. Snodgrass. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, John Denver, the Smothers Brothers, and Tony Orlando are among the legendary entertainers that have attended and supported the event in the past.
The International Society of Poets offers membership to amateur poets and writers from all around the world.
